FAQs

Who can join the Widows?

All Wellesley students are eligible to audition, and no prior experience is necessary!

What is the audition process like?

Each audition is around 5-10 minutes long, in which we will be testing your singing ability through several exercises. At the end of the audition, you will sing the song that you prepared!

What can I sing for my audition?

You may sing any 30 - 60 second song excerpt of your choice and please understand that we may need to stop you if you're singing overtime! Some of our past members auditioned with modern pop songs, opera arias, songs in various languages, and even original songs. We recommend choosing a song that highlights your vocal range and unique tone. Most importantly, please choose a song you are comfortable singing!

Can I audition for more than one a cappella group?

Absolutely! We encourage you to audition for any of the other Wellesley a cappella groups!

How many times can I audition?

If you've auditioned in a previous semester, you're welcome to audition again! And this certainly won't hurt your chances, even some of our current Widows auditioned more than once!

Can I get accepted by multiple a cappella groups?

Yes! However, you can only choose one group to join.

What is the time commitment?

We typically rehearse 6 hours per week, spread across three rehearsals. We do not confirm our rehearsal times until we have accepted all members in order to accommodate everyone's schedules. Our Musical Director (MD) team will also hold optional office hours each week if members want to work on a specific song, practice in smaller groups, or just hang out! Many of our members find that the time commitment is very manageable, and are engaged in other orgs and eboards in addition to the Widows!
